MUTATION RATE STUDY

In August 2003 Family Tree DNA (the testing organization for the DUNHAM-DUNNAM surname project) announced plans to undertake a study to develop better mutation rates on a marker-by-marker basis.  Project coordinators were invited to participate by providing genealogical connections for individuals who have been tested.  We were assured the information would remain private and would be destroyed at the end of the project.

Our participation in this study by providing the necessary data will ultimately assist in our understanding of mutation rates, I beleive.  A copy of the proposal is available at the following site:  http://www.ftdna.com/mutation_study.html

I asked Gratia Dunham Mahony  if she was able to provide the data for the study and she agreed to do so.  We decided that it would be useful to post this information on our web site as it became available.

I have slightly modified her first presentation of information so it would fit better on our web site.  In essence, I divided it into individual pages which I thought might be easier to view.  The first submission provides information on the descendants of John Dunham who have been determined through DNA analysis to be related.  I am placing on our site a copy of our    memo to FTDNA accompanying the initial submission as well as the succeeding submission.
